Description

The Grumman HU-16 Albatross is an American amphibious biplane, designed and first flown in 1947. It was originally designed as a search-and-rescue (SAR) aircraft, and was later used as a light transport and utility aircraft. It could carry up to twelve passengers, and was powered by two Wright R-1820 radial engines. It had a range of up to 2,000 miles, and a top speed of around 180 mph. It was used by both the United States Air Force, and the United States Navy, and was also used by several other countries, including Canada, Mexico, and Japan. The Albatross was retired from military service in the late 1970s.
