The Gulfstream G550 jet for sale is produced by General Dynamics Gulfstream Aerospace unit, located in Savannah, Georgia. It s a variant of the Gulfstream V and a direct competitor to the Airbus Corporate Jet, Boeing Business Jet, and the Bombardier Global Express. The development of this airplane, which was to be called the GV-SP following the Gulfstream tradition of naming its models with roman numbers, was announced in 2000. This showed an intention to make the G550 a special upgraded performance version of the highly successful GV model.

The G550 has a length of 96ft 5in, a height of 25ft 10in, and a wingspan of 93ft 6in. At first sight, it may be distinguished from the legacy Gulfstream V by the square outflow valve on the aircraft s right side as compared to the circular one on the GV, and a seventh passenger window on both sides of the aircraft. Internally, the primary change to the airplane is the development of the PlaneView avionics system, which consists of 4 Honeywell DU-1310 EFIS screens and a Gulfstream-designed cursor control system. Additionally, the aircraft for sale features an Enhanced Vision System (EVS), an infrared camera that displays an image of the view in front of the camera on a head up display. EVS permits a number of extra operations that increase the safety and maneuverability of the airplane, such as landing in lower-visibility instrument meteorological conditions. During the design process, Gulfstream also achieved a number of drag-reducing steps such as improving the seals between the rudder and fin, and the elevators and horizontal stabilizer. However, the greatest step taken in drag-reduction direction was the reconfiguration of the cabin pressurization outflow valve, which allows the escaping air to be recovered as a tiny bit of thrust.

The G550 is powered by 2 Rolls-Royce BR710 engines that allow it to develop a maximum cruising speed of 0.87 Mach, and a normal cruise speed to 0.85 Mach. This permits a 6,750 nautical mile range at Mach 0.80 and a service ceiling of 51,000 ft. The crew consists of two pilots with an additional pilot used for longer flights. The rear cabin can be configured to accommodate 14 to 18 passengers. The G500, which is another version of the Gulfstream V and a shorter version of the G550, was launched in 2002 and introduced into service in 2004. It has the same exterior appearance and the PlaneView cockpit, except for the EVS as standard equipment. It has a lower fuel capacity than the G550 for a range up to 5,800 nautical miles. The G500 fuselage has the same dimensions as the G550, but it s slightly lighter with an empty weight of 48,000 lb and a lower max takeoff weight of 85,100 lb. The speed and ceiling features are equaled. The Gulfstream jets allows executives to travel quickly, and comfortably to any destination worldwide.
